ZOTAC ZBOX CI337 Nano

What a working build needs:

1. Memory: one laptop-style SO-DIMM. The N100's memory controller is single-channel, so one stick gives full bandwidth. ZOTAC's spec sheet names the memory generation and maximum capacity for the CI337; check it before buying a module, since DDR4 and DDR5 sticks are not interchangeable.
2. System drive: an M.2 SSD, NVMe on PCIe 3.0 x1 or SATA.
3. Optional second drive: a 2.5-inch SSD or hard drive in the bay.
4. Operating system: a Windows 11 licence or a Linux install; none is included.

The build takes minutes: open the base, seat the memory and the M.2 drive, close it, and install the OS from a USB stick. ZOTAC has built ZBOX mini PCs for years, and drivers and BIOS updates come from its own support site.

The model code ends in BE, BE1, J, U, K or AUS depending on the region. These are regional versions of the same barebones for different markets; the hardware is the same across all of them.

Any three of those outputs run at once, each at 4K and 60Hz, which is the N100's display limit. Having four to choose from means fewer adapters:

• HDMI 2.0 ×2: for TVs, projectors and most monitors.
• DisplayPort 1.4: for office monitors that prefer DP and for daisy-chained setups.
• DisplayPort over USB-C: for a USB-C monitor on a single cable.

Silence plus three screens makes the CI337 a strong signage and office machine. A meeting room, a reception desk or a studio control desk gets a PC nobody hears. The N100's media engine decodes H.264, HEVC, VP9 and AV1 in hardware, so video walls and streamed content play without loading the CPU.

A fanless case has one trade-off.

The N100 turbos to 3.4GHz for short bursts, but in a long all-core load a passive box settles to the clocks its surface can sustain. For office work, browsing and video, the bursts cover it. Give the case open air: it is VESA mount compatible, and on the back of a monitor with space around it, it stays within its comfort zone.

• Two-port router or firewall: WAN and LAN on the two gigabit ports, running OPNsense, pfSense or OpenWrt, with the N100's AES-NI for VPN encryption.
• Silent home server: Home Assistant, Pi-hole and a Jellyfin server with Quick Sync transcoding, on a shelf in the living room.
• Small file server: the OS on the M.2 drive, bulk data on a 2.5-inch drive, shared over gigabit.
• Proxmox node: one port for management, one bridged to virtual machines.

The storage wiring suits that role. The M.2 slot runs NVMe at PCIe 3.0 x1, up to roughly 985MB/s, which is well above the roughly 118MB/s a gigabit link can deliver. The 2.5-inch bay takes a large SSD or a laptop hard drive for an archive. The N100 home server builds cover which services fit on one box.

Speed and memory set the boundaries. Both Ethernet ports are gigabit, so a multi-gigabit connection needs a 2.5GbE firewall box instead. Memory is whatever you install, so size the SO-DIMM for the workload: 8GB for a router, 16GB for a server with several containers.

Four USB 3.2 ports, one of them Type-C, plus Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 round out the connectivity. As with any N100, power draw is low, and the N100 power ranges show what a 24/7 box costs to run.

The MeLE Quieter 4C is the plug-in-and-go choice with USB-C power. The VENOEN industrial PC adds two RS232 ports and three storage slots for machine control. The HEIGAOLAPC firewall is the one for multi-gigabit routing.

Choose the CI337 nano when:

• You have, or want to choose, your own memory and SSD.
• You need two Ethernet ports and zero noise in one box.
• DisplayPort 1.4 or three mixed outputs matter for your screens.

It is the most flexible of the four, and the only one that asks for assembly. That is the whole trade: the ready-made boxes decide the memory and storage for you, while the CI337 lets you fit exactly the RAM, the NVMe drive and the 2.5-inch disk the job needs. For a homelabber with a parts drawer, that is the feature. For a buyer who wants a working PC on day one, the Quieter 4C is the easier path.
